Organized under the framework of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module ShakesEU (Exploring EU Culture and Values through Shakespeare's Plays), hosted by Sakarya University, the 1st International ShakesEU Symposium is an exclusive, boutique 2-day in-person academic gathering. The symposium brings together international scholars, researchers, and educators to explore core European values—including human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and human rights—through classical dramaturgy, literary analysis, and pedagogy.
Grounded in five key Shakespearean texts (Julius Caesar, Romeo and Juliet, Othello, The Merchant of Venice, and Measure for Measure), the symposium provides an interdisciplinary platform bridging English literature, translation studies, sociology, social work, law, and ELT/language pedagogy.
